Explanation

Hiroshima Municipal Commercial and Shipbuilding Technical School Monument

According to the inscription on the monument, 270 mobilized students and three members of the school staff, who were on duty performing demolition work in the city, fell victim to the atomic bombing. The inscription additionally reads: “We vow that such a tragedy shall not be repeated by humankind. We also console the souls of the many graduates of former Hiroshima Municipal Commercial School, who died so bravely in battle in this war and have become the guardian spirits of our country. May this monument preserve our true feelings for future generations.”
