Hiroshima Second Municipal National Higher Elementary School Monument

Explanation

This monument has the name of the school which was first founded, not the one at the time of the bombing.

The back of the monument reads:
・ April 1934, Hiroshima Second Municipal Elementary School was established.
・ April 1941, the name was changed to Hiroshima Second Municipal National Elementary School under a wartime school order.
・ On August 6 th, 1945, about 260 students and six teachers were killed by the A-bomb. They were mobilized in Nakajima-cho for building demolition or working for factories.
・ April 1947, Hiroshima Second Municipal National Elementary School was closed, under the school reform program of new school educational laws. After that, Hiroshima Kanon Junior High School was established in its place.

・ April 1976, former teachers and student union members organized the committee to build a memorial monument for the A-bomb victims.
・ July 1977, the monument was built, and a memorial service is held every year.
