27. Hiroshima Jogakuin Girls' Middle School Monument

Hiroshima Jogakuin Girls' Middle School Monument

The schoolhouses resounded with hymns.
Our teachers, our classmates,
You flew up with God' s blessings,
Not burned by “Little Boy.”
War is the work of man.
Oh, memories of pure white lilies!

Explanation

Hiroshima Jogakuin Girls' Middle School Monument

Hiroshima Jogakuin Girls' Middle School was established to educate girls based on Christian values in 1886. Over 330 students, teachers, all the school buildings, and facilities were lost due to the A-bombing.

The monument says, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die.” (John11-25)

A special service is held remembering the A-bomb victims every year.

The iris which the first president, Nannie B. Gaines, loved, is the symbol of the school.

Location : Hiroshima Jogakuin, Kaminobiri-cho Naka-ku
