26. Municipal Middle School Monument

Municipal Middle School Monument

“Give me water!”
“Give me water!”
The monument facing the river
Is still listening
To these voices from its depth

Explanation

The Municipal Middle School was temporarily built using part of the Tenma Elementary School in 1942, and the following year it was moved to Nakahiro-machi.

Municipal Middle School Monument

The monument was built in the Sankoji Temple yard in Koami-cho in 1948 and then moved to the present site, the Tenma River bank in 1975 so that anyone could visit it.

The epitaph reads, “369 A-bombed souls,” but in the inscription it reads, “more than 370 A-bombed souls,” adding the victims identified after erecting the monument.

Location : Koami-cho, Naka-ku
