43. First Prefectural Girls' Middle School Monument

First Prefectural Girls' Middle School Monument

Proud school uniforms--
After being admitted to school
How much you could have studied.
Respected teachers, good friends,
Whenever camellias bloom,
The blossom of your youth is brought back

Explanation

This monument was erected in 1955, dedicated to 20 school staff, including the school principal, Mr. Oka, and 277 students.
There is a copper plate behind the monument on which the names of the victims were inscribed by Shunko Kawakita, who was a teacher of Japanese calligraphy and a leader of the Kana calligraphers. She wrote every letter of their names with tears, remembering each of the deceased.
