28. Ushita Monument
August' s scorching heat comes around.
Compared to that heat wave that burned you,
The blowing wind feels even cooler.
The crying of the cicadas should be frozen.
The wounds in my heart still ache.
Explanation
Ushita was free from fire as the area was mostly fields and rice paddies at the time of the bombing. Therefore, a great many people took refuge in Ushita.
This monument was erected in 1950 for the 760 victims in and around Ushita. In 1969 it was reerected. In June, 1970 the statue of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, was erected.
