Explanation

Coal Related Business People Monument

In those days the major energy source was coal. There were 77 employees in the office. Except for one woman, the remaining 76 were killed. The surviving woman took the initiative and called for donations to company-related people from Hokkaido to Kyushu. This monument was erected with the raised money on August 6, 1957. On the back of its podium, the names of three corporate bodies and nine individuals are inscribed. A copper plate with the victims' names is placed inside the monument.
