21. East Kanon Townspeople Monument
A devilish bomb exploded
Over the town with the name of the Merciful Goddess.
Does Buddha tell us,
“Forgive that evil act?”
We pray for the repose of the souls of the victims.
We pray for peace of the world.
Explanation
This monument was built in 1965 to commemorate the 20th year of the bombing. In 1975, the seated figure of Shinran Shonin was added, with the monument used as its pedestal. This was dedicated to some 1350 people who died.
