Explanation

Honkawa Townspeople Monument

A guide stone stands beside the monument, which explains about the monument. It reads in summary:

Thousands of bodies of A-bomb victims were collected from all over the Honkawa area and cremated at Honkawa Elementary School. The ashes were buried at this site. Later, however, they were moved to the Memorial Mound in Peace Memorial Park. This monument was erected to remember the fact and console the souls of the dead.
