34. Hiroshima Prefecture Agricultural Association Monument
You said, “I want to eat the tomato.”
Offering it to the Buddhist altar,
I said, “You can eat it back at home.”
You never came back.
My regret never ceases as long as I live.
I have never eaten tomatoes since then.
I will eat them with you there.
Explanation
August 6, 1945, at 8:15 a.m., a single atomic bomb that exploded in the air above Hiroshima City turned the entire city into a hell on earth in an instant.
Raging fires burned the city into ruins, and the 80-plus workers, including executives of the Hiroshima Prefecture Agricultural Association, were killed.
Here, close to the site where the Hiroshima Branch used to stand, we erect this monument to honor the perished victims.
