Explanation

Fifty-two people are recorded as A-bomb victims.
A poem on the monument which was written by Hideki Nakai, manager of the department then, reads:

Alas, Hiroshima!
No light is seen
But the Milky Way.

The explanation says:

When night fell, lying on the roof in the dark, I came to count the number of the dead.
The number of little twinkling stars was increasing, as if I had been following the souls of the dead under the sky. Since then, silver stars have become among my favorites.
