Nishi Jikata-cho and Nishi Shin-machi Townspeople Monument

Once these towns were gay.
But in those days,
You had to wear work pants.
Instead of a dancing kimono,
And give up *shamisen lessons.
After your ordeal, freedom has come.

Explanation

Nishi Jikata-cho and Nishi Shin-machi Townspeople Monument

Casualties were countless because this site was extremely close to the hypocenter. Some stone statues of *Jizo, exposed to the A-bombing, stand at this temple even today. The head of one of the statues was found 300 or 400 meters from the temple. This is a model of a storybook, Okorijizo or The Angry Jizo, written by Yuko Yamaguchi. The statue is kept at Ryusenin Temple in Matsuyama City at present.
*Jizo: a guardian deity of children

Location : Joenji Temple, Dobashi-cho, Naka-ku
