35. Requiem Monument (Special Cadets of Shipping and Communication Academy Monument)

Requiem Monument (Special Cadets of Shipping and Communication Academy Monument)

Big brothers,
Little brothers,
I am waiting for you to come back.
You were killed
Without fighting at war.
By a flash of light,
You were killed together with citizens.

Explanation

Requiem Monument (Special Cadets of Shipping and Communication Academy Monument)

Special Cadets of the Shipping and Communication Academy were taking a lesson in the Senda National Elementary School building, 1.8 km from the hypocenter, where they lodged and studied.
The epitaph dedicated to them on the monument reads:

Dearest friends, rest in peace.
It has been 30 years since you, our brothers, were killed in the shambles.
You, school boys, had hurried here to join the army for your home country, which was on the edge of a fateful crisis and fell victim to the first-ever A-bomb in history. Now you are resting here.
Despite your own heavy wounds, you first inquired after your friends' safety. You, brothers, died with deep regret in the midst of chaos. Your grief is still heartbreaking to us, who have survived.
Here, we, your classmates, get together to cherish memories of pure-hearted brothers and to pledge our efforts for eternal peace, which was your last wish.
Again, rest in peace, young friends.

Location: Army Cemetery, Hijiyama Park, Minami-ku
