2. Yasuda Girls' Middle School Monument

Yasuda Girls' Middle School Monument

Not wearing a blue or red ribbon,
You were sweltering.
Hiroshima has been built on your sweat.
With my eyes closed
I think of you.

Explanation

This monument was erected in May, 1951 by Yasuda Gakuen, with cooperation of the students and the staff to commemorate 13 staff members and 310+ students who lost their lives in the A-bombing. Beside this, another monument inscribing the names of the victims was erected by Karahana-Kai, the alumnae association.

Yasuda Girls' Middle School Monument

Yasuda Girls' Middle School was located in Nishi-Hakushima, which was closer to the hypocenter than it is now. Now, the school is in Hakushimakita-machi, where the Army Corps of Engineers used to be stationed. There are many A-bombed trees in the school grounds.
A commemoration ceremony is held every August 6 by the school and Karahana-Kai.

Location : Yasuda Gakuen, Hakushima Kita-machi, Naka-ku
