Explanation
Six hundred and seventy-nine souls of teachers and students of The Municipal Girls' Middle School rest at this monument.
In 1951, the monument was built in the precinct of Jimyoin Temple in Kobiki-cho, Hiroshima, which was close to the site where the students were mobilized.
In 1969, the monument was moved to the present site when the temple was relocated.
Another monument for the Municipal Girls' Middle School stands on the Motoyasu River on the south side of Peace Memorial Park.
