36. Goddess of Mercy for Mobilized Students Statue
The door is kept open,
Just like the moonlight coming in from the window.

Explanation
More than 6,000 mobilized students from middle schools and girls' schools were killed by the A-bomb. More than 4,000 of them were identified and their names are engraved school by school--21 schools, on the 30 cm by 50 cm copper plaque. This plaque is placed inside the mound under the Goddess of Mercy Statue.
The Tanka poem inscribed on the pedestal reads:
Becoming Goddesses of Mercy,
The souls of these young students for peace
Should be blessed.
