19. National Volunteer Corps Monument
When grass began to sprout in the ruins,
A board for the missing stood in the ruins.
Over time…
The board became a monument,
Still searching for missing families.
Explanation
The National Mobilization Law was implemented in 1938 by the 1st Konoe Cabinet, so that all the national resources, including citizens, could be put under government control. A National Volunteer Corps was organized accordingly.
This monument is for Kanon-nishi townspeople as well as 111 National Volunteer Corps members who died in this area.
