Explanation

Students and School Staff Monument (Hiroshima Girls' School of Education and Affiliated Yamanaka Girls' Middle School)

Yamanaka Girls' Middle School was founded in 1887 as a female higher educational institute. Hiroshima Girls' School of Education was bombed not long after it opened and was then taken over by Hiroshima University continuing its history.
The inscription carved on the back of the monument of Hiroshima Girls' School of Education reads,

“Alas, on August 6, 1945, two teachers and 43 mobilized students died in the A-bombing and became the cornerstone of peace.” On the back of the monument of the mobilized students and school staff from the affiliated Yamanaka Girls' Middle School, the inscription is similar, “Alas, on August 6, 1945, two teachers and 382 students died in the A-bombing and became the cornerstone of peace.”

Both monuments are built side-by-side on the same pedestal.
