Now that Mother is not available
Hold tight, my children, instead to me.
They would love offerings of sweets.
How I wish to let them have their own way, just this once.

During World War II, this school was used as a barracks, and children had classes in small groups at nearby temples. The children at this temple were trapped under the collapsed building and killed by the A-bombing. After the war, the chief priest of this temple enshrined those children by erecting a stone statue of Jizo and named it, Guardian Jizo for Children.
